Being Green Never Looked So Good

Eco-friendly options for your next tile job.

Homeowners interested in being kind to the environment now have the option of going Green with their tile. Western Tile Design Center, which sells wall and floor tile and provides design services, is at the forefront of the movement with their tile from Azuvi and setting materials from Bostik manufacturers.

“A lot of customers want to go Green,” says Russell Reed, manager of Western Tile. Tile setters are quickly catching up to meet this demand. Some of the contractors Western Tile is associated with have taken classes on the subject. One vendor Western Tile works with that is at the forefront of the Green tile movement is Azuvi, based in Spain. Azuvi “was Green before it was cool,” having built its manufacturing facility using Green principles.

Everything Azuvi uses in its manufacturing process is recycled, says Russell, with nothing going into the landfill. This includes the water, which is purified and re-used. “Water is a big factor in the manufacturing process of tile,” says Russell.

Western Tile supplies setting materials from Bostik, which meet the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Building Guidelines. This includes meeting standards for the amount of volatile organic compound emissions the products release. Because tile releases few, if any emissions, it is ideal for people with allergies or other respiratory ailments. It is easy to clean and durable, making it a great long-term investment. Porcelain, which is completely non-porous, is simplest to maintain.

A FAMILY AFFAIR

Western Tile Design Center is a family-run business, serving its community for 25 years. At their showrooms in Dublin and Concord they provide free design help. “Really what we are here for to help people design,” using drawings and tile samples on boards, says Russell.

The company offers an array of tile from 50 different manufacturers. “We take pride in how fast we can get the material,” says Russell. The company also takes pride in its uniquely qualified customer service, and its extensive contractor base.

“We try to find out what the client’s needs are, and go from there,” says Russell. Western Tile Design Center is a place where both customers and the environment are cared for. They are the go-to location for top-quality tile products and design.
