More than a Make-Over

Completely transform the look of your home.

How can you turn an ordinary home into something extraordinary without the noise, mess and expense of tearing out old concrete, brick or stucco? Creative Resurfacing has the answer.

Drawing on over 25 years of experience, Creative Resurfacing owner John Deffebach uses state-of-the-art technology and Old World craftsmanship to overlay almost any surface, flat or horizontal, with a durable coating that has the look and feel of real quarried stone. It’s a fast and easy way to give boring stucco a rich travertine finish, flat concrete the look of carefully crafted flagstone, and uninspired grey pavement a full-color make-over.

The Martinez based company has been transforming pool decks, patios, and driveways in Bay Area homes since 2005. “But we can also take it up walls, around corners, cover brick fireplaces, and create archways,” said John. In fact, a lot of customers use Creative Resurfacing to give their entire exterior and landscape—and often the interior, as well —a unified new look by resurfacing everything from the patios and pool decks to outdoor kitchens and retaining walls.

The material—a mixture of white Portland cement with crushed limestone and quartz blended with acrylic polymers—is spread right over the old concrete, forming a new surface about ¼" to 3⁄8" thick that is even stronger than the original, withstanding up to 5,500 pounds per square inch.

The company’s skilled artists then turn the durable new surface into a thing of beauty, hand carving and hand coloring it to create realistic stone shapes and custom textures, patterns and colors limited only by the imagination. For a homeowner in Livermore, for example, they created a pool deck that resembles random flagstones in rich sandstone colors, then added a four-foot leaping dolphin graphic at each corner of the pool—one for each of her four grandchildren. And they gave a tract home in San Jose some Old World curb appeal by resurfacing the entryway walls to look like quarried blocks of limestone.

John started his career building freeways and has worked with concrete and contractors all his life. When he started Creative Resurfacing, he was determined to build client relationships as solid and long-lasting as its concrete resurfacing products. That’s why he works with his customers every step of the way, helping them choose the look and colors they want, creating a sample-board so they can see what the final surface will look like, monitoring every job, and following up afterward. And he stands by every resurfacing project with a warranty.

“I am really customer service oriented,” he said. “They call me and I’m there.” That’s probably why much of his work comes from personal referrals and repeat customers – like a Brentwood family who liked their new deck so much that they wanted him to resurface their outdoor kitchen, too.
