What is your Interior Design Style and Look?

Understanding the interior design style that fits your personality.

Looking to update your home but having trouble deciding what you like and don’t like? Have you heard the term ‘interior design style’ a few hundred times already and are still unsure of what it means? Don’t worry; you’re hardly alone.

To simplify, it is the decorative aesthetic that best complements your personality in your home. There’s Industrial, Shabby Chic, Art Deco, Southwestern and a whole host of other options to choose from. However, let’s not complicate things and stick to the classic styles which appeal to a variety of individuals, hopefully, which includes you as well.

Contemporary/Modern

Often used interchangeably, the contemporary/modern mix of interior design encompasses a wide range of materials and colors. However, there’s nothing overly showy about modern design. It’s classic and clean, with sleekness and simplicity in every element; particularly well suited to the man/woman of the 21st century.

Modernistic furniture and complementary décor are fluid in the sense that they give you the leeway to improvise and add pieces as they suit your fancy. The best part about this style, there is absolutely nothing confusing about it at all. Pick this style, and you can look forward to solid colors or muted neutrals, strong streamlined furniture with a true use material showcasing to its advantage at every turn.

Traditional

Do you prefer an abundance of accessories and charming pieces in every corner? Is the neo-classic look with a conventional and symmetrical décor with an old-worldly feel what appeals to you the most? If yes, congratulations, you are a traditionalist at heart, and that’s fantastic!

A traditional interior design is cozy and comfortable with a hefty dose of calmness in the clutter. The style is not perfect to create that homely environment using the best mid-tone colors, with plaids, floral or stripe accents throughout.

Minimalist

One of the most popular interior design styles in this decade, the Minimalist is exactly what it seems – unfussy with a complete lack of disorder and disarray.  It’s spare, and yet it’s inviting, with every single piece of furniture highlighted in its own right. There’s no hodgepodge of things overshadowing each other. This is a style perfect for those who prefer organization in their lives. However, this by no means implies that the minimalist style is boring. Rest assured; it’s anything but.

Interesting geometric pieces can accent the rooms, with subdued solid colors mostly used for maximum impact. Opt for clean walls and surfaces with hardwood floors and maybe one or two choice pieces of art or accent colors to brighten up the space. Remember, for the minimalist; less is definitely more!

Remember these interior design styles are not rigid, nor do they require that you strictly stick to a particular theme. Be creative and have fun.
